VAWO members vote en masse for merger with AOb

Hundreds of VAWO members had voted in favor of the merger by means of an authorisation. During the general assembly, the members present even voted unanimously in favor.

2 December 2019 – Last Friday evening, VAWO members voted en masse for the merger with the Algemene Onderwijsbond (AOb). Of all the votes cast, 97% were in favor of the merger. VAWO chairman Roel Pieterman is pleased with this: "It’s overwhelming that so many members have expressed their confidence in our plans. As the VAWO board, we have always said: we want to continue! Now we say: we can!”

Just like VAWO, AOb is an independent trade union that works hard for strong collective agreements, reliable legal advice and they also fight for a healthy educational environment, says Pieterman. "For years now, VAWO has been fighting for important themes such as less temporary appointments, more diversity, an acceptable workload, more government investments and academic freedom. This is desperately needed and we will be able to do this with more manpower starting the first of January. Certain is that our employees and the current VAWO board at least feel like setting up a sector academic education and research (WO&O) together with AOb."
