Opening Academic Year 2015-2016
Scientists squeezed themselves into large bumper balls during the opening of the Academic Year in Utrecht on 31 August 2015. With all their might they tried to collect beach balls that symbolized a permanent job or research funding, only the ball that symbolized work pressure was not wanted by any of the academic employees.
Chairwoman Marijtje Jongsma is pleased with the course of the action and the attention of Minister Bussemaker of Education. "So many changes are still needed. Just look at the many temporary contracts, the increasing problems with research funding and the ever-increasing workload. We may be presenting an entertaining picture of academic employees in a big ball, but our situation is far from funny. That's why it's important to continue talking, with universities, research institutes, academics, members of parliament and the minister. And that's what VAWO is going to do."
